Don't Be Afraid To Be Who You Are - Auradon Side

The Rain Rain Rain Came Down Down Down

Just over a week after the Isle visit people would find themselves drawn outside. The reason might vary, it was a lovely day and the air had the sweet scent of spring. It was the first truly warm day, and perhaps that was it. But for whatever reason everyone, or nearly everyone, found themselves outside and then drifted peacefully off to sleep.

As they slept a gentle rain came down upon them, soft enough to wake only those in a cursed sleep. The water not only broke dark spells and curses on the people the rain touched but for some people it brought a very different sort of transformation.

A number of the Missrecalled might find themselves awakening older than they had been when they fell asleep. Some of them might awaken with all their older self's memories, or maybe those would come with time, or maybe the memories would need more help to return. But when everyone awoke with a light dew on their faces and clothes, some people would be in for quite the surprise....

After the odd outdoor nap, many might wish to head into their rooms to get changed and freshen up. Or maybe they wouldn't go back to their room for a while, but when they did they would find a gift on their beds waiting for them....

"It's not my writings, it's all the spit they wrote about me," she muttered darkly. "The same things over and over again..." she shook her head, disgusted.

Alright, Sephiroth wasn’t expecting that and it made him angry. “They hated you that much? Why?”

As if some people needed a reason. He knew all too well some didn’t.

She rolled her eyes. "I'm not so good with school nonsense. I'd rather be out there. Doing something useful."

Sephiroth actually smirked at that. “That was how Zack felt as well.”

"Sounds like a smart person then."

“He is … a very interesting person.” There was a definite softness in Sephiroth’s tone. “And smart, yes. Sometimes smarter than I was.”

"Guessing he's not here then?"

"Sadly, no," Sephiroth said.

"Shame. A few smart ones like us and we could get this place into shape," she joked.

Sephiroth smirked at that. “Oh, I quite agree,” he said.

"Well at least Leia is here. Hopefully she's back to being an adult too. Wonder if Nita is around..."

“Nita?” Sephiroth asked. He vaguely thought he remembered being told of that person, but he wasn’t sure.

"Yeah, she was my partner back in one of the other places like this we got hauled to."

“I see. How long ago was that?” He was a bit confused, wondering if that was something that happened before or after she grew up. She seemed to have a lot of memories now of this older age.

"Given I was 13 again yesterday? How the actual happinesses am I supposed to give an ocean walled answer that would mean an ocean walled thing? Ocean wall it I want to curse again!"

"We should speak with the king and queen and see if they have any answers for this phenomenon," Sephiroth said. "It may be temporary." He just wasn't sure. He had never encountered such a thing that wasn't caused by breakable magic.

"It better not be!" she "swore" in five other languages before going back to the one that translated most easily. "No way in any of the happinesses am I going the happiness back to being an ocean walled teenager again. Not happening, and I don't care what magical being's donkey I have to... Why the happiness would I kick a donkey?! That sounds like a fast road to broken bones!" She started experimenting with other swear words to see what their translations would be. She finally settled on "stonework". "I have no ocean walled clue how that translates to stonework, but what the happiness. At least all I'd break that way is my own ocean walled foot."

Sephiroth listened to the ranting, entertained. What a colorful person.

“Well,” he said, “then I hope for your sake it’s permanent, then.”

"It better be. Do you know how many ocean walled years it took to get half the office to stop seeing me as a mascot?" she asked, making an annoyed face.

“The office?” he said vaguely. How strange to suddenly have so many memories when you just “grew up.”

"The Hawks. Th office where we get our assignments and deal with the only Leontine to join the Halls Of Law. Him, and his breath," she said with a huff of a laugh.

“Interesting. Do you name all your groups after animals?” he wondered.

"Just so you know that would be considered a culturally offensive choice of phrase back home. Doesn't stop most people from saying worse but..." she shrugged as best she could while still holding on. "Leontine is the name of his race. Just like I'm Human" more or less. "Clint is Aerian, Ybelline is Tha'alani, specifically Tha'alanari. Teela and her cohort are Barranai" again more or less, "Tiamaris is a Dragon, Tara is a sentient building," she stopped trying to think if she missed anyone. "Small and squawky is a familiar, but I'm not sure if that is a race or not. Oh. Bertolle is a Hallione. Mejrah is a Norinarr." She thought again. She was pretty sure that was all the major races, but... oh well there were the Ancients but she couldn't exactly name any of them, given what Name meant to them. There were also the ghosts, but she wasn't going to give up someone else's secrets like that.

As she spoke she told him far more than she realized, however. Her telling him basically what he had said was considered raciest was said with the dry sort of eye roll that made it clear she'd heard the same thing over and over and didn't necessarily agree. Like she was toeing the official line dutifully rather than that she was upset. There was warmth when she said Leontine this time. Mostly because she was thinking about the Leontines she knew. Marcus especially. but the pridela as well, and the cubs, and Marrin. All of whom she loved even if she'd never say the word out loud. When she spoke Clint's name there was warmth and humor and a little good natured frustration. Between her tone and her expressions, she really was an open book. When she said Aerian there was some awe there. She was working on idolizing them less. Well, she was trying to. Sort of. When she remembered. Ybelline's name was all warmth and when she said Tha'alani there was a protective fierceness in her voice. When she aid Tha'alanari however, bitterness and a hint of anger. Teela's name was said with frustration and badly disguised love. Cohort however... exasperation, mostly. Though she really did like some of them. When she said Barrani however her eye roll was inescapable. While she cared a great deal for some individuals... the race as a whole didn't really impress her much. She was a Hawk, and most of the worst and most dangerous crimes tied back to the Barrani. Tiamaris was a name said with warmth and a weird almost sense of pride. That one was complicated. But he was proof that the changes she had dreamt of as a child were possible. While she in no way credited herself for those changes, it still warmd something in her to see them happening, and that was owed to Tiamaris. And Tara. At the word Dragon there was a bit of a frustrated huff. But also some affection. So long as she didn't think about two specific Dragons. Well, sort of three, depending on how you counted the Outcaste...

Tara... her name was said with warmth and affection but also amused exasperation. Sentient building however held an almost challenging protectiveness. Like she would go to war defending them and was almost daring him to force that to happen.

When she said Small and Squawky she had clearly been about to say something else and stopped herself at the last minute. There was a mix of frustration and embarrassment there. Mostly frustration because where the actual happinesses was he now that she needed him?!

Bertolle and Hallione were both words that were loaded with a mix of protectiveness and frustration. And absolutely some exasperation. But she was still happier that they existed than that they hadn't. And she did genuinely feel for a few of them. Even if Bertolle's brothers still freaked her out some.

Mejrah's name was spoken with respect. Norrinar was spoken with a mix of respect and exasperation and a little confusion.

And when she ended after that it was clear she was still thinking. Because there were the Ancients but she didn't know how to begin to explain them. And then what species name could she give to someone like the being that had been the Adversary but who now played chess with Terrano? Or to Spike? Or to someone like Gilbert? She would have called them Shadows and been done with it, except... she understood them better now. Which still gave her a lot of guilt over past battles. Ugh. The whole thing made her head hurt, and he could probably see the exact moment she decided not to think about it anymore and just focus on the fact that they were flying. Even if they were still so low to the ground Clint would have whined at her the whole time that she might as well just walk.

"I apologize," Sephiroth said, despite her tone when she said it.

He listened, thoughtful. He could definitely pick up on all the different ways she spoke of everyone. And he did indeed see when she stopped thinking about it all.

"Your world sounds very interesting," he said. "If I may ask, what are the sentient buildings?" Were they born that way? Magicked into living? Haunted?

That was the strangest thing she had said and he was very curious.

"Mostly they were something else once and agreed when the Ancients asked. Pretty sure at least one of the Hallione was mortal. But the Towers and Helen... I'm not sure. Tara says she has no memory before she was awoken to her role, but then she really couldn't interact much for most of her life as a Tower anyway. he's much happier now that she has Tiamaris and she can actually see the people in her Fief." Kaylin was clearly both protective and affectionate towards her, but then her smile got a bit rueful. "Now that she understands what her people are... she's trying to grow vegetables." she shook her head, still amused by that.

"As for Helen... she damaged herself, a while back, in a desire to be able to choose her own tenants rather than be bound to a Master. She lost a lot of her memory when that happened, and healing can only do so much."
