The Rain Rain Rain Came Down Down Down

Just over a week after the Isle visit people would find themselves drawn outside. The reason might vary, it was a lovely day and the air had the sweet scent of spring. It was the first truly warm day, and perhaps that was it. But for whatever reason everyone, or nearly everyone, found themselves outside and then drifted peacefully off to sleep.

As they slept a gentle rain came down upon them, soft enough to wake only those in a cursed sleep. The water not only broke dark spells and curses on the people the rain touched but for some people it brought a very different sort of transformation.

A number of the Missrecalled might find themselves awakening older than they had been when they fell asleep. Some of them might awaken with all their older self's memories, or maybe those would come with time, or maybe the memories would need more help to return. But when everyone awoke with a light dew on their faces and clothes, some people would be in for quite the surprise....

After the odd outdoor nap, many might wish to head into their rooms to get changed and freshen up. Or maybe they wouldn't go back to their room for a while, but when they did they would find a gift on their beds waiting for them....

"Hm. I see," Sephiroth mused. He was definitely thinking the dragons in that world must be stuffy and overly sensitive.

He winced at the dragon's behavior. "Is he usually like that?"

"Annoyingly yes. It's why I usually call him what he is, small and squawky. It's not his name but it might as well be. And he can ocean walled be understood when he ocean walled well chooses to be."

The small creature let go of her finger to give off a hissing laugh, looking quite amused. His opal black eyes and the inside of his mouth were dark where the rest of him was so pale that it was shocking you couldn't see his musculature under his skin. And it looked like skin not scales. He wrapped his tail possessively around Kaylin's neck.

"He seems rather like a cat," Sephiroth remarked.

"No kidding, listens about as well as one too. Don't eat that, I don't have any spares," she said to him annoyingly as he started chewing on her hair stick. Then back to Sephiroth. "Right. Food."

Sephiroth smirked a bit and then nodded, coming back to the task at hand. "This way."

He led her towards the cafeteria.

She nodded moving to follow, batting at Hope while watching his wings. She can't help it.

He could feel her watching. He didn't mind. He was proud of his wings and knew they fascinated people.

He opened the door to the cafeteria. "Here."

The cafeteria held what had become the usual banquet spread -- a few regular tables pushed together into one quite long one, laden with all sorts of fare. Fresh fruits and vegetables and their dips, warm breads and spreads, cheeses and yogurts, souffles, omelets, meringues, cakes and pies and cookies, and everything from pastas and their various sauces, to soups and stews and sandwiches, with bottles and pitchers and cups for drinks every so often, with her wine, water, various juices and even tea lately... it was just as serve-yourself-as-you-like as it had been previously. Mallia wasn't about to police anyone's diets; she herself thought that making a whole meal of wine and pies was a perfectly fine idea.

Speaking of... she was still at the table she'd set up for herself back before Solstice, when the storm had locked them all indoors for a bit, in the corner. Her head was down, attention on the book before her as she wrote, a rather more modern fountain pen in one hand than she'd been using previously, as she transcribed something to the stack of papers nearby. Another sewing project was to one side of that, and the Go board was on her book's other side, at the end of the table, the containers of pieces neatly set on top of it....

Intent on what she was doing, she didn't look up just yet as they entered. People could come and go and take from the buffet as they pleased; she didn't need to watch anyone at it, for the food to behave as food ought.

Kaylin headed for the food, but she glanced over to the wine, considering it. She grinned but loaded up on food first. "You eating too?" she asked as she carried her loaded plate over to where drinks were. As a kid she had no clue what she had been missing by not getting booze. She didn't often drink on her own, but she felt she needed it this time.

“Yes, I am,” Sephiroth said, and selected an assortment of things he particularly liked. He didn’t normally drink alcohol, but he did like Mallia’s, so he got some of that as well.

She nodded and set her plate down long enough to fill a cup. Hope yelled angrily, but she ignored him and she downed it in a gulp and immediately stumbled back, screaming. Her arms could be seen as faintly glowing through her sleeves and the gems and her bracer were flashing almost blindingly bright as she collapsed down in on her self.

Sephiroth was immediately on alert and worried. This was not something he had seen happen before.

“What’s wrong?!”

He didn’t ask if she was alright. That would be inane.

Mallia was up and across the room in about no time at all, eyes wide. "What happened?" Which of the two she was asking was anyone's guess.

So of course it was Hope who answered. His voice would just sound like angry squawking to Sephiroth, but to Mallia....

It started with a very formal greeting followed by "She reacts poorly to some kinds of magic an she just drank a whole mess of it. Your creation, I presume?"

Kaylin was too busy biting through her own lip trying to stem the screams as she hugged her arms in tight to herself.

Sephiroth didn’t understand Hope, but he bent down by Kaylin, trying to see what was wrong and if there was anything he could do.

"But-- but it's nothing that everyone doesn't already have...?" Bafflement, that's what this was, as she knelt down on Kaylin's other side, addressing the tiny dragon. "Would it help if I tried to pull some away again...?"

"I've never seen her actually eat magic before!" Hope said to her, still sounding like Squawking. Then he dived for Kaylin's wrist, biting onto her bracer.

What Kaylin managed to say through her pain absolutely sounded like swearing in tone. Well either that or she was choking considering how much growling and snarling was in it. "Don't eat that," she managed through the would be swear words. She shoved Hope away and pressed on the gems rapidly in an odd pattern. Despite having no hinge, the bracelet popped open. It's gems went dull as soon as it was no longer on her wrist and she gasped, but already looked a little less worse. "What the actual happiness was in that ocean walled drink!?" she gasped.

“Berries, as I recall,” Sephiroth frowned. “Are you allergic?”

"Nothing I manifest should have anything to do with one's inability to consume that thing normally," she said, glancing back up at him briefly. Mundane allergies were not a concern here, it seemed. To Kaylin... She tried to say what it was, but whether the local language-magic interpreted it as her saying that it was made of life, spirit, or energy, she wouldn't know -- they were all the same word, in the language she used. "Only those truly dead and gone, or never alive to begin with have none already."

"Magic... allergic to... magic..." she gasped arms and legs hurting like sandpaper was rubbing off all her skin.

Sephiroth didn't know what to make of Mallia's words or Kaylin's, but this was obviously a matter of the gravest concern.

"Do you need some kind of medicine?" he asked Kaylin. She still seemed bad off, even though not quite as much so as before. He had never heard of medicine for such an ailment, but then he had never heard of such an ailment either.

Mallia shook her head -- whether it was to Sephiroth or just in general, it was hard to tell. Both, perhaps? "That's not how my magic works. I don't understand... but I can try retrieving the excess?" She put a hand out -- if Kaylin wanted her to, it'd be easy for her to grab it.

"Just... Just give me... a moment..." she gasped. "Hope... is there anything..."

He squawked, it sounded like angry chicken to them both. Kaylin however turned and glared as he flew circles around her head. "I am going to bake you in a soup one day," she threatened. "Fine don't help." But yelling at him seemed to help distract her from the pain some, at least.

Sephiroth still didn’t understand or know what to do. He felt helpless, and all he could really do was wait a moment as Kaylin had said.

He wished he understood the dragon.

“What is he saying?”

Mallia shook her head -- if the little one had said anything just then, she didn't understand it. She sat back a bit, folding her hands loosely on her thighs as she shifted to settle a little lower, sitting flat on her legs... she could wait there. "...I just... don't understand. To not already have what there was so much of in that, one need be not only dead, but also gone, or never alive to begin with...." She looked between Kaylin and Hope, and Sephiroth, beyond confused.
