The Rain Rain Rain Came Down Down Down

Just over a week after the Isle visit people would find themselves drawn outside. The reason might vary, it was a lovely day and the air had the sweet scent of spring. It was the first truly warm day, and perhaps that was it. But for whatever reason everyone, or nearly everyone, found themselves outside and then drifted peacefully off to sleep.

As they slept a gentle rain came down upon them, soft enough to wake only those in a cursed sleep. The water not only broke dark spells and curses on the people the rain touched but for some people it brought a very different sort of transformation.

A number of the Missrecalled might find themselves awakening older than they had been when they fell asleep. Some of them might awaken with all their older self's memories, or maybe those would come with time, or maybe the memories would need more help to return. But when everyone awoke with a light dew on their faces and clothes, some people would be in for quite the surprise....

After the odd outdoor nap, many might wish to head into their rooms to get changed and freshen up. Or maybe they wouldn't go back to their room for a while, but when they did they would find a gift on their beds waiting for them....

"It sounds as though your commanders need a lesson in how to run a successful organization," he remarked. How could something as important as law enforcement be run that sloppily? he had to wonder.

She shook her head, not wanting to get into it. She tried to think about what else to say instead when her stomach growled loudly.

Sephiroth was amused again.

"Apparently it's time to go in and eat," he smiled.

"Is there ever not a time if food is available?" She started to walk in then stopped herself. "I... am an adult again now.... do you know what she charges adults for food?"

Ah, would she ever cease reminding him of Zack?

"There is no charge here," he said. "The food is free."

"This place is so weird, but I want to eat before they wise up. Come on." She headed in. Trying to remind herself she is too dignified to jog.

Yeah, right. At least she knows not to run. Running Hawks cause panic, and panic causes paperwork.

Very amused, he followed. It smelled like there was definitely food ready.

Something came flying down the hall to meet her, throwing itself into Kaylin's face with a lot of squawking that sounded like an angry chicken.

"Where the actual happinesses have you be... OW! THAT WAS MY NOSE!" Kaylin was struggling to get a grip on the pale flapping thing, and it seemed just as determined to latch onto her face.

Sephiroth jumped a mile, bracing himself for an attack, and then stared at the creature. "What is that? A dragon?"

He hadn't seen one so small in some time.

"So long as you don't, OW HOPE!, say that in front of any actual Dragons, yes."

She finally got a hold on the small cat sized dragon and settled it on her shoulder. "You have a lot of explaining to do," she said to the creature.

It started squawking loudly.

"SO THAT I CAN UNDERSTAND YOU!"

Sephiroth grunted. "Either it is or it isn't."

He watched, a bit amused by their interaction.

"He's apparently a familiar, but when ever I call him a Dragon in front of a Dragon they get huffy. And as I'm flammable and ticking off a dragon is considered a form of suicide and thus not against the law..." she shrugged. Then she poked the creature. "In Elantran?"

He bit her finger.

"Hm. I see," Sephiroth mused. He was definitely thinking the dragons in that world must be stuffy and overly sensitive.

He winced at the dragon's behavior. "Is he usually like that?"

"Annoyingly yes. It's why I usually call him what he is, small and squawky. It's not his name but it might as well be. And he can ocean walled be understood when he ocean walled well chooses to be."

The small creature let go of her finger to give off a hissing laugh, looking quite amused. His opal black eyes and the inside of his mouth were dark where the rest of him was so pale that it was shocking you couldn't see his musculature under his skin. And it looked like skin not scales. He wrapped his tail possessively around Kaylin's neck.

"He seems rather like a cat," Sephiroth remarked.

"No kidding, listens about as well as one too. Don't eat that, I don't have any spares," she said to him annoyingly as he started chewing on her hair stick. Then back to Sephiroth. "Right. Food."

Sephiroth smirked a bit and then nodded, coming back to the task at hand. "This way."

He led her towards the cafeteria.

She nodded moving to follow, batting at Hope while watching his wings. She can't help it.

He could feel her watching. He didn't mind. He was proud of his wings and knew they fascinated people.

He opened the door to the cafeteria. "Here."

The cafeteria held what had become the usual banquet spread -- a few regular tables pushed together into one quite long one, laden with all sorts of fare. Fresh fruits and vegetables and their dips, warm breads and spreads, cheeses and yogurts, souffles, omelets, meringues, cakes and pies and cookies, and everything from pastas and their various sauces, to soups and stews and sandwiches, with bottles and pitchers and cups for drinks every so often, with her wine, water, various juices and even tea lately... it was just as serve-yourself-as-you-like as it had been previously. Mallia wasn't about to police anyone's diets; she herself thought that making a whole meal of wine and pies was a perfectly fine idea.

Speaking of... she was still at the table she'd set up for herself back before Solstice, when the storm had locked them all indoors for a bit, in the corner. Her head was down, attention on the book before her as she wrote, a rather more modern fountain pen in one hand than she'd been using previously, as she transcribed something to the stack of papers nearby. Another sewing project was to one side of that, and the Go board was on her book's other side, at the end of the table, the containers of pieces neatly set on top of it....

Intent on what she was doing, she didn't look up just yet as they entered. People could come and go and take from the buffet as they pleased; she didn't need to watch anyone at it, for the food to behave as food ought.

Kaylin headed for the food, but she glanced over to the wine, considering it. She grinned but loaded up on food first. "You eating too?" she asked as she carried her loaded plate over to where drinks were. As a kid she had no clue what she had been missing by not getting booze. She didn't often drink on her own, but she felt she needed it this time.

“Yes, I am,” Sephiroth said, and selected an assortment of things he particularly liked. He didn’t normally drink alcohol, but he did like Mallia’s, so he got some of that as well.

She nodded and set her plate down long enough to fill a cup. Hope yelled angrily, but she ignored him and she downed it in a gulp and immediately stumbled back, screaming. Her arms could be seen as faintly glowing through her sleeves and the gems and her bracer were flashing almost blindingly bright as she collapsed down in on her self.

Sephiroth was immediately on alert and worried. This was not something he had seen happen before.

“What’s wrong?!”

He didn’t ask if she was alright. That would be inane.
