The Rain Rain Rain Came Down Down Down

Just over a week after the Isle visit people would find themselves drawn outside. The reason might vary, it was a lovely day and the air had the sweet scent of spring. It was the first truly warm day, and perhaps that was it. But for whatever reason everyone, or nearly everyone, found themselves outside and then drifted peacefully off to sleep.

As they slept a gentle rain came down upon them, soft enough to wake only those in a cursed sleep. The water not only broke dark spells and curses on the people the rain touched but for some people it brought a very different sort of transformation.

A number of the Missrecalled might find themselves awakening older than they had been when they fell asleep. Some of them might awaken with all their older self's memories, or maybe those would come with time, or maybe the memories would need more help to return. But when everyone awoke with a light dew on their faces and clothes, some people would be in for quite the surprise....

After the odd outdoor nap, many might wish to head into their rooms to get changed and freshen up. Or maybe they wouldn't go back to their room for a while, but when they did they would find a gift on their beds waiting for them....

"What? Oh, I help the midwives guild sometimes." Not that she really wanted to talk about that. She rubbed absently at her arm, not realizing she was doing it.

"Ah. I see." It didn't sound like something Sephiroth would particularly enjoy doing either. "Is that profitable work?" He wondered since she had been concerned about money earlier.

She made a face and shook her head. "The guild has a sliding scale. They help even if someone can't afford it." She wouldn't have worked with them otherwise.

"That's good of them. That was my policy as well," Sephiroth said.

She blinked, startled and reluctantly impressed. "You're a midwife too?"

"Heh. No. But I have hired out as a hero in the past. If people desperately needed help but couldn't pay, I helped anyway."

"I didn't know hero was usually a paid gig. Mostly it gets me on bed rest and bandaged up," she added that last bit in a mutter. "If you ver had to drink any of Moran's medicines you'd know it is hardly a reward."

“It is in my world, but it requires training,” Sephiroth said. “Not everyone has what it takes.”

"YOU GET TRAINING?! WHAT THE ACTUAL HAPPINESS?!"

He winced. "It's like military or survival training," he explained.

"Beats the happiness out of everyone expecting you to just know what the actual happiness you're doing."

“That would be disastrous in such a profession,” he said.

"Welcome to my life," she said, bitterly.

"It sounds as though your commanders need a lesson in how to run a successful organization," he remarked. How could something as important as law enforcement be run that sloppily? he had to wonder.

She shook her head, not wanting to get into it. She tried to think about what else to say instead when her stomach growled loudly.

Sephiroth was amused again.

"Apparently it's time to go in and eat," he smiled.

"Is there ever not a time if food is available?" She started to walk in then stopped herself. "I... am an adult again now.... do you know what she charges adults for food?"

Ah, would she ever cease reminding him of Zack?

"There is no charge here," he said. "The food is free."

"This place is so weird, but I want to eat before they wise up. Come on." She headed in. Trying to remind herself she is too dignified to jog.

Yeah, right. At least she knows not to run. Running Hawks cause panic, and panic causes paperwork.

Very amused, he followed. It smelled like there was definitely food ready.

Something came flying down the hall to meet her, throwing itself into Kaylin's face with a lot of squawking that sounded like an angry chicken.

"Where the actual happinesses have you be... OW! THAT WAS MY NOSE!" Kaylin was struggling to get a grip on the pale flapping thing, and it seemed just as determined to latch onto her face.

Sephiroth jumped a mile, bracing himself for an attack, and then stared at the creature. "What is that? A dragon?"

He hadn't seen one so small in some time.

"So long as you don't, OW HOPE!, say that in front of any actual Dragons, yes."

She finally got a hold on the small cat sized dragon and settled it on her shoulder. "You have a lot of explaining to do," she said to the creature.

It started squawking loudly.

"SO THAT I CAN UNDERSTAND YOU!"

Sephiroth grunted. "Either it is or it isn't."

He watched, a bit amused by their interaction.

"He's apparently a familiar, but when ever I call him a Dragon in front of a Dragon they get huffy. And as I'm flammable and ticking off a dragon is considered a form of suicide and thus not against the law..." she shrugged. Then she poked the creature. "In Elantran?"

He bit her finger.
