Open/locked?: wide open!
Who: Mallia and your character(s)!
What: Interviewing those from the Isle, primarily...
Warnings: nah.
She's specifically looking to catch the people who'd been on the Isle... but wants to say hi to everyone else as well, really....
Residents have surely noticed her -- or at the least, the food she's been providing -- in the first half of the day or so, every day. The bowls of fresh fruit and fancier dishes, from meringue omelets to cheesecake, soups and salads, pasta dishes and bottles of what seems to be wine, are typically laid out across one of the tables, an inviting-looking (and inviting-smelling!) little feast, the dishes and silverware for it all at the end, just begging to be used.
To note, among the fruits on offer were plenty of those odd, large black berries Chell had been handing out on the shore. Also, there's no meat to be found among any of those dishes. Eggs and dairy are present, honey is likely in at least one of the sweets... but not one morsel of meat in any of it. It's not at all vegan, but it's at least vegetarian.
Mallia herself tended to be found sitting in a windowsill, quietly blocking the sunlight with what looks like a pair of giant butterfly wings fanned out behind her, the purple panes at their edges quickly giving way to a dark velvety black, all of it matching her long dress quite nicely. Her hair's not done up quite as much as it usually would be, not that the Isle residents would know as much yet -- but she's at least not curled up there as a small child any longer. Instead, she looks like perhaps an older teenager, her hair twisted back from the front, along its sides, until the two twists meet, only to be tied with purple ribbons and what looks to be quite fake roses -- real ones aren't so dark a midnight blue, are they? With oddly large dark purple irises and very subtly pointed ears, she's either having fun dressing up, or perhaps more likely, simply isn't human.
But she'd been spotted before, on the Isle's beach, talking to Chell... only to seemingly disappear, once on the boat, having ushered the ent out of sight, and then reappearing again when it was time to unload it. But between then and now, she'd been a bit scarce, though some may well have spotted a younger child that resembled her greatly.
Now, however, she was being more proactively social, sitting up to give a little smile and a wave hello from the window there. "Good morning!"
Should it be one of the people rescued from the Isle... her wings swung down quickly, folding up behind her... one would swear she simply had a regular cloth cape behind her dress, once they had, nothing stiff about it as she stood up, a little notebook and pen in hand. Clearly, she wanted to talk about something with them....
Or did she catch them later in the day? (BYO prompt!)
If it's much past noonish, the feast has mysteriously disappeared from the cafeteria. Now she's making her way around the school and its grounds, and venturing out to the shopping area as well, looking for anyone she may have missed earlier.
Where does she find yours?

The cafeteria, earlier in the day:

Date: 2024-01-20 12:56 pm (UTC)And up a tree.
Mallia would likely hear Morgana before seeing her - specifically, she'd hear the notes of a guitar, as Morgana sat in a bevy of branches, strumming her instrument and singing to herself.
"Waiting on the end just like the world,
You wander as you look into the darkness
For your wish should have come true..."
no subject
Date: 2024-01-20 09:41 pm (UTC)She waited until after the last note before speaking up. "That was absolutely lovely... you're quite talented."

Date: 2024-01-20 09:47 pm (UTC)"In cold weather like this, nothing warms the body like a good rock song."

Date: 2024-01-20 09:50 pm (UTC)What previous reason for looking for her? Her attention was on this now!
no subject
Date: 2024-01-20 09:52 pm (UTC)"Hang on. Are you telling me you've never seen a guitar before?" What kind of backwater world did this girl come from?
no subject
Date: 2024-01-20 10:07 pm (UTC)Backwater world might not have been too inaccurate; she was looking pretty gothic herself, but more in a princess-y, Morticia Addams's younger sister sort of way, with roses and swishy long skirts, than fishnets and spikes. There was not one single zipper or buckle in sight anywhere on her, no jewelry... just the rose and ribbons in her hair.
"I think the closest I can remember was a lute, or a... a gittern...?" She looked from the guitar to Morgana, hopeful. "Might I try it...?"
no subject
Date: 2024-01-20 10:12 pm (UTC)This kind of important conversation was probably something better faced... face to face. With that, she released her legs from the branch she was hanging from - then jumped and leapt from branch to branch until she finally was on solid ground again.
"If you don't know what it is, I don't know if I can let you touch it. Asmodeus has been with me for years - through the good, the bad, and the just plain weird. It's almost like family. No guitar, no Morgana." Pause, then a wavey hand gesture to herself. "Which is me, by the way."
no subject
Date: 2024-01-20 10:44 pm (UTC)"But... it really is nice to finally meet you properly, Morgana. My name is Mallia." She gave her a nod. It wasn't a bow or curtsey, but something about how she did it suggested it served about the same purpose. "I was hoping to ask a few things, if that's all right...?"
no subject
Date: 2024-01-20 10:48 pm (UTC)"Sure, why not." She shrugged one shoulder dismissively, trying to play as if she's too cool for school. She'll just treat this like she's being interviewed like the very cool celebrity that she is. "Whaddya wanna know, Mallia?"
no subject
Date: 2024-01-20 10:54 pm (UTC)In other words, she didn't even know what to think to try to offer in the first place.

Date: 2024-01-20 11:00 pm (UTC)"Let's just say the things I need, this place can't provide." A gigantic concert hall filled with a screaming audience, endless cash, the rest of her band, the guys she was hopelessly crazy about-actually, ignore that last thing. A-Anyway, she pretended to inspect her nails.
"But not in a life or death kinda deal. Don't sweat it. I know we're in for the long haul, and aside from throwing an occasional temper tantrum, there's nothing I can do about it."

Date: 2024-01-20 11:36 pm (UTC)"A-huh. And if I asked, and you could, what's the price?" Nothing in this, or any other world, was free.

Date: 2024-01-21 12:53 am (UTC)"I'm not exactly a gourmet myself. I'll just take whatever's offered to me." And sometimes steal what wasn't offered. A little shrug. "Nothing you can give me, nothing I can give you. A great start." She couldn't help but deadpan.

Date: 2024-01-21 01:15 am (UTC)"When I'd returned, a friend of mine introduced me to some things, such as chocolate...." She held out a hand and opened it... and was holding a chunk of it, dark brown drizzled with darker brown on top, offering it out to Morgana with a smile. "And here, there's been tea, and new mushrooms, and Sylvando's baking...!"
If nothing else, she's been a bit sheltered, it seemed.
no subject
Date: 2024-01-21 01:37 am (UTC)"And I thought my old man was behind the times..." She muttered under her breath, before taking the chocolate and chomping a good bite out of it. After licking her lips (beak?) she then held up her hand and clicked her tongue. Her hair then shuffled - and creatures began crawling out of it! Two bats and a spider, all of whom were now taking turns nibbling the chocolate.
"Then there's definitely no way you'd be able to zap what I'd like into reality. All of my band equipment would take forever and a half to explain."
no subject
Date: 2024-01-21 02:22 am (UTC)"I suppose it's one dubious benefit to having been away from the world at large for a few centuries... everything seems rather new and exciting, despite everyone else assuring you that it's entirely mundane to them." Another gesture, simply turning her hands over to open them, and this time, she was holding a tray full of desserts, some of which looked suspiciously similar to what had been available earlier in the day, in the cafeteria. Slices of fruit-filled pie and cake, cookie-sized cheesecakes with some sort of gray syrup baked onto their top and a black shape poking up from where it was mostly buried within it, more chocolates next to fresh fruit mostly covered in a glossy brown layer of it... and a wine glass, half full with something black that swirled with an odd indigo-silver sort of glow. She held it out to Morgana as well.
"Some of these simply come from places in my own world that I'd never visited myself, but now, there are ways to transport such delicacies over great distances, and in tremendous quantities...." She pointed to a fruit tart, one with bits of what had to be pineapple and kiwi slices, "Like these. But most of this is from my own people... and I understand that most of the humans in my own world are unfamiliar with them, even now... so I don't imagine that many people here would yet know much of it."
no subject
Date: 2024-01-21 12:51 pm (UTC)If Mallia was some sort of conwoman, Morgana didn't want to fall for it and become indebted. If Mallia was just naive and being as overly sweet as the chocolates, Morgana felt uncomfortable taking advantage of her kindness. Lose-lose.
"I'm good. A rock-star like me needs to watch their figure anyway." A lame lie - if Morgana was any thinner, maybe a swift breeze would take her down. "Besides, where I'm from, this sort of magic always has consequences, even if they're unintended. Hard to break that way of thinking."
no subject
Date: 2024-01-23 08:17 am (UTC)And depending on what of it interested them, at least one of the fruits' flavors -- the black ones -- would most definitely seem recently familiar. Had they found more of those giant berries among the morning's spreads, while Mallia had been distracted, perhaps? No?
"Well, I'm sorry to hear that, then. With my magic, the only price is that which is paid to create it. And I took that from the sun itself a few hours ago." Don't mind that she wasn't even looking at Morgana as she said it; she was watching the three eat. It wasn't hard to tell from her expression that she thought they were adorable... it was a legitimate enough reason to be a little distracted, right?
no subject
Date: 2024-01-23 10:10 am (UTC)"The sun, huh." She took a token glance up at the sky, as if half expecting it to have stopped glowing a little brighter. Was Camilla saying she was like a plant person with photosynthesis?
That kind of sounded like that weird villain from that one show that Drake was obsessed with... not that she had binged the entire show to know him better... sigh. She couldn't help but wonder how he was doing now? Speaking of things that were super cute...
Wait, no. Focus.
Morgana sharply shook her head, snapping out of a potential lovey-dovey stupor, and cleared her throat. "Well, uh, whatever. You do you, it doesn't matter to me at all. All I want is to keep up my musical chops so I can get back to my gigs as soon as possible whenever we get out of here."
no subject
Date: 2024-01-24 09:09 am (UTC)"I suppose, then, that the other question I had was, what besides food was lacking at the Isle? I'd neither a chance to really see for myself what was there, nor, if I'm honest, am I greatly familiar with what amenities others may be accustomed to in the first place...." That was definitely a sheepish sort of smile, even while she watched the little ones eat what they wanted. "I'd like to know what to ready, for when next we deliver things."
no subject
Date: 2024-01-24 12:42 pm (UTC)(Because she definitely wasn't concerned it would be a strain on Mallia and burden her with problems. Nope.)
"I'm used to not having much. Back home, it's just me and the band, traveling all over, only looking for places to play our music." This was... mostly true? But definitely still contained lies.
no subject
Date: 2024-01-30 11:42 am (UTC)Honestly, she'd have opted to simply go tour the place herself, to make a list, but... how would she possibly know what might be missing? She didn't even need food, let alone things like blankets or toothbrushes... not that she was particularly thinking about either of those things right now anyway.
no subject
Date: 2024-01-30 06:29 pm (UTC)A derisive snort. "We all got kidnapped and then they have the nerve to judge who gets the first class treatment and who is dropped into a dumpster."
no subject
Date: 2024-02-03 08:19 am (UTC)"Which is part of why I'm trying to figure out what's needed there. Keeping everything nice here when it might be more appreciated there is senseless. But I haven't a clue what to prioritize. If more people show up there, they ought not dwell in such miserable accommodations while they wait for the next retrieval."
no subject
Date: 2024-02-03 10:38 am (UTC)Suddenly, she snapped her fingers. "Okay, babies, that's enough. I don't need you weighing the size of bowling balls when you're sitting on my head."
Perhaps a little embarrassed, her familiars finished up their sweets and began to flitter back to her. Each one definitely now had little paunches to show off how much they'd eaten, the tiny gluttons.

Date: 2024-02-09 11:02 am (UTC)"I suppose I'm simply hoping to know what to bring, when I do. I wouldn't like to show up empty-handed, if I could instead come bearing something wanted."
no subject
Date: 2024-02-09 09:41 pm (UTC)"I can't think of anyone who wouldn't be happy to have a bunch of desserts at the ready. They're not exactly selling cakes and cookies over there."
no subject
Date: 2024-02-10 10:57 am (UTC)"In fact, I'm certain I saw similar bowls of fruit disappear among the crowd when mine did. And I would be willing to bet that if whatever was making them disappear hadn't, you would have had a good deal more of it while you were there already."
no subject
Date: 2024-02-11 12:28 pm (UTC)"Amazing... so even if you want to help out, they actually won't let you. This place is messed up beyond all reason."
no subject
Date: 2024-02-11 12:39 pm (UTC)She had some guesses as to what'd happened at the shore there, from the bits she knew. And it apparently amused her, at the moment. You know, for some reason.
