I'll See Your True Colors

One day the day dawned so much more lovely than any in Auradon yet. The weather was perfect and all the colours looked more vibrant and cheerful. Even the birds and butterflies - the native ones, Mallia can decide for herself - seem in a particularly good mood. And there is a lovely rainbow across the sky.
Those with a magical sensitivity can tell there are some new beings in Auradon, but finding them will take some work. Though for the strongest among the magical residents there is clearly a connection between the rainbow and these new comers.
Odder still, the rainbow is actually anchored. Though it would be hard to tell for those coming out of the school or castle from the front, one end of the rainbow stretches from the enchanted lake - a place Mallia, the King, and Queen know of, but no one else yet - to... the back of the school! How it can be seen from the front of the school then is one of those of mysteries of magic that might never be understood. Because from every outdoor part of Auradon except at either base the rainbow seems to stretch overhead into the distance.
At the base of the rainbow behind the school however.... one of the odd new beings might be spotted, but never for long. It seems to be running around trying to gather something from the ground, hidden by the grass.
When the creature realizes it has been spotted, it will flee into the rainbow itself and seem to vanish. Where it had been searching, one could look in the grass to find that there are small flat glittering star shapes that look cut from coloured cellophane. Each one holds a colour of the rainbow; so there are red ones, blue ones, green ones, and so forth. Each has only a single colour to it. Holding one makes one feel wonderful. Holding multiple of the same colour makes a person feel in tune with a specific set of feelings and sensations.
Red - brave, confident, protective, and competitive especially at solo achievements.
Orange - A desire to pretty one's self up, energetic, and a wanting to be with the person or people most important to them.
Yellow - Cheerful, friendly, trusting.
Green - An extra love for nature, being proud of one's self without being vain, also anyone carrying a lot of green stars will find themselves having extra good luck for a while. Nothing major, but small delightful things like a butterfly landing on their nose or finding something they had misplaced.
Blue - Athletic. Competitive at team based activities. Whoever collects a lot of blue stars will feel an urge for playing games with as many people as possible. The more active the game, the better! Also they might find they have an urge for healthy foods!
Indigo - Theatrical. Dramatic. Looking for the spotlight to entertain others. A hankering to dress up in fancy clothes.
Violet - Shy. Quiet. Whoever collects violet stars might find themselves hankering for a good book, and wanting to sit inside with a cup of their fave warm beverage and lose themself in a good book. They will also find themselves thinking more clearly than usual.
If someone collects stars of multiple colours they will feel over all good and rather than feeling the emotions of just those colours, they will be influenced by all of them. This effect will be stronger the more stars they collected.
Examining the stars, they are some sort of magical crystals. Experimenting with them will prove difficult, however, as while they stay intact in hands and in pockets things change when they are set down. Put on any surface, even one treated to contain magical samples they will turn the thing they were set on the colour they had been and vanish into the item. A single crystal will make a slight change in hue. Several can fully change the colour of a thing. And yes, thing in this case can include animals and even other people. Anything it can be put on top of. though oddly handing it over does not trigger this effect.
No matter how one tries, they can never have more than a dozen crystals at a single time, though using them or putting them back or dropping them does allow them to pick up enough to get back to a dozen.
Handling any of them will always leave the person holding them with a positive feeling compared to when they hadn't any, but the feeling is slower to dissipate when they no longer have any than it was to form.
Also as a side effect of prolonged contact, people may feel so good that they are more comfortable showing facets of themselves they had not yet dared.
Other than the white one with the colored crystals at the base of the rainbow, whom no one would see more than just the once no matter how often they look, there are at least two others. And finding them will take dedication and real effort. With that effort by mid event one might be able to spot a truly magnificent horse with a star on his forehead and a rainbow mane. Noticing he's been spotted he will toss his head and run away. Up the rainbow, as though it were a bridge.
Anyone who managed to find the horse who keeps looking will be able to find a few more new beings two days before the end of the event. Though not all three of them had been there before. A young girl has joined the horse and the small white creature, and she and the white creature were riding the stallion at the top of the rainbow. On a small stormcloud beside the top of the rainbow sat another girl on another horse, and they seemed to be talking. The rainbow is higher than four feet from the ground but only a foot from the top of the nearest tree. If whoever found them can either fly the four feet limit or climb the tree unnoticed, they can hear the following conversation:
"The whole island is like that," the more purply dressed girl was saying. "I couldn't get there at all, it was like I kept bouncing off."
"Hmmm. That is weird," the more brightly coloured one replied. "I wonder if the mosntromurk is behind this. Starlight and I will check it out. You stay here."
"Stay here and do what?" the purple girl demanded, seeming put out. "It is a Storm! I should be going with you."
"This land has had nothing but sunshine since I arrived, Stormy. I've done what I can to help the plants, but they need rain, and that is something only you and Skydancer can do."
The girl softened then nodded. "Alright, Rainbow. We'll give these people a nice gentle rain, but you send up the signal if you get through to that island, okay? It is full of storms and storms are mine."
The blond nodded. "You got it, Stormy. Come on, Starlight, let's go see what's wrong across the ocean. Twink, you coming with us or staying here to collect those colour crystals you dropped?" She asked the small white creature.
"I'm coming with you! Where Rainbow Brite goes so does loyal sprite Twink. Besides... I can't find anymore, I think they all got carried away or something."
"Hmmm... Well, after we finish with the island, we'll have to go back to Rainbowland to get some more."
And then a new rainbow would appear, seeming to start from the blond's belt, out towards the ocean. Her horse would ascend it and race off.
Once they were gone, the purple haired girl would look at their observer. "You're not gonna tell anyone about any of this if you know what's good for ya," she said, trying to sound tough. "Better get inside or I'll rain on your whole parade!"
On the next to last day of the event, the skies would open up before dawn sending a loud thunderstorm to rival those on the Isle, though this one did not flood or destroy everything. It just made it unpleasant and - due to lightning - hazardous to be outdoors. And worried Ben because apparently this sort of storm just doesn't tend to happen in Auradon. Mal would be concerned as well and if pressed would admit that the storm feels like magic, but not genie magic...
And on the final day of the event, the sun would rise and everything would look fresh and new again. The sky would be a bright perfect blue, the grass an almost shimmering green, and the rainbow brilliant overhead. As the day goes the rainbow would fade, and with it the stars and the sense of the odd magic it all had brought, though the brighter colours would linger for months yet to come...
