Memories Of Future Past Part 2 - The Last Memory
The flickering snippets of memory got to a point so far out for many that they almost could not recognize themselves. Who they had come to be. And then one day, something was different.
This time there wasn't even a snippet. There was less. But there was an emotional impact that hit differently. There was a sense that this... this was important.
It would happen when each person was at their most exhausted and fragile after the onslaught of the weird bits of memory from some future they had not yet lived.
But now there was one last... not a memory. No. Somehow instinctively each character would know that this wasn't a memory. This... was a message.
A single word sent back from their future self. A self further out than any of the future memories, even if only by days. Or hours.
That word might come with an image of their future face, a tone of voice, and maybe a faint image of their future self for just a flickering second.
But this message, this single word... it is what their future self wanted their current self to know. A single word meant to help. Or, if the character really hates themselves, to hurt.
That word might not make sense now, but the character will be able to tell that to their future self, that single word was of vital importance.
Picture This!
A few days after the final message, the Queen sent word around that she wanted everyone to meet in a large library in the castle. She was there when people started to trickle in, standing with Ben. They stood before a large stretch of wall that used to have bookcases and now was covered in a large cloth.
Ian was working a video camera aimed at the curtain and Queen, and had a laptop with them.
Once it seemed as though everyone who was going to arrive had arrived, Mal gave them all a smile that seemed warm on the surface. In reality she was nervous and doing everything she could to hide it.
"Alright, thank you all for coming. A few quick announcements," she said. "First of all, Ian has managed to get video to broadcast to the Isle again, so everyone on the Isle can see this meeting as well as you all can. After this, Ian will send them a copy of the Talent Show to watch. But first...
"Alright, so." She took a deep breath. "As the snow is finally starting to melt, we are working on clean up. Then once we can get the snow shoveled enough we are going to be going to the Isle to bring supplies again. And after that, we're going back to trying to find a way to the farms again."
Another breath. "Alright. Now that the announcement is out of the way, the reason that we are meeting here specifically. I have been working on something for a while, and I wanted to share it with you all." She reached up for the cloth. Ben on the other side helped her pull it down.
The wall was now clear of shelves and instead... there was a mural. It was huge, and beautifully done. It was... them. Every single person that had arrived in Auradon or on the Isle that Mal had ever become aware of. So those she never met, like Conan, weren't there. But those she had met? Even those who were here and were now gone? They were immortalized on the wall in brilliant spray painted colour.
Those who started in Auradon all had a faint halo of pale purple around them, those who started on the Isle had a halo of pale green. But other from that, people were generally grouped where they seemed to be groups. Separate with room for others when they seemed to be elsewhere. It was all well done. And to those like Leia and Aqua and Sylvando, the mural might seem familiar, since this isn't the first world Mal had done this in.
In fact those with an eye for detail might see an easter egg that makes sense only for that past world. Scrawled on the bottom in one corner, was a message in jagged black tiny letters. Though it didn't take an eye for detail to notice just how much Gar... looked like Greg. For those who had never met Greg it looked like she had added him twice with different colour pallets. But like everyone else, they were distinct and well depicted.
"I'll add others when they arrive. If I missed anyone... please let me know. But... yeah, okay. That's it. Oh, and the Network should be working again soon. We'll let you know. Okay, have a good day or whatever."
