Let's See What's In The Cards (Mmhm)

The weather was still bitterly cold, and the snow was still thick on the ground, but it was finally possible to at least go outside by the front doors. The King and Queen have still forbidden anyone from staying overnight at the museum district in case it started snowing again. But the King could be seen outside trying to shovel snow enough to make a path to the castle at the least.

The snow was still too thick to get easily anywhere not shoveled, and the snow was so heavy that even beasted out, Ben needed to take constant breaks inside to sit down and dry off. This wasn't going to be a fast task.

It was only made harder when it started. For those who slept, it would start after they have fully awoken for the day. For those who don't sleep, they'd find that they had fallen into a pleasant daydream, even if it wasn't normal for them to do so. When they came out of it, that was when it would start for them.

But what is it, exactly?

Small snippets of memories, playing for anyone who was with the person remembering to see. But the thing was, these memories... were memories the person had not yet made. Memories of the future.

Not enough to give answers, probably not enough to give reassurances for much other than "oh hey, I do have a future after all," but generally pleasant, and short. Hey, it will give people a thing to talk about, at least. Especially since this will go on for the next two weeks or so.

"Perhaps Zack could be alive out there somewhere. I continue to hope for that. But Cloud actually caring about me is highly unlikely. He hates me. I have no reason to believe that will ever change."

From what he could tell, whatever good relations Sephiroth had with Cloud in the past had almost become non existent. So Harry decides that it is for the best not to push on in inquiring about it further. He didn’t want to talk too much about how bad his interactions with Malfoy and Snape have been for most of his school life nor is he ready to speak about how much of a horrible bully Dudley was to him either if he was on Sephiroth’s shoes.

“I take that Zack was a friend of yours back in your world? The vision I had witnessed earlier did showed to me that he seems to be a very nice guy to have a talk with.”

Sephiroth is good with not talking about it. It is definitely complicated: Cloud blaming Sephiroth for what happened to Zack on top of Cloud having the bizarre idea that Sephiroth is literally Cloud's darkness instead of a real person. And Sephiroth running with the idea hoping to use reverse psychology on Cloud to convince Cloud not to give in to the darkness, even though Cloud instead takes it just the opposite and believes Sephiroth is trying to drive him to the darkness.

"Yes, Zack was my very dear friend ... the only friend who actually stayed. He was very gregarious, a happy person to get to know."

“That sounds really amazing of him to be a good friend. It would be nice to meet him someday. I also have two really good friends in my world who share similar traits like Zack.”

"I hope someday I will see him again. Perhaps if the circumstances are right, I can introduce the two of you. You are blessed to have two such friends."

“Oh, it would be a great honour to meet him someday. I could wish that I could do the same thing with mine as well if the right circumstances come along. And I am quite glad to have met them and enjoy their company through the years together.”

Sephiroth nods. "I would likewise be honored to meet them. Perhaps they will all show up here someday."

“Yeah exactly. I do hope that they might show up in here someday, they would be more than happy to get to know you more as much as Zack would. That’ll make for an amazing reunion for sure.”

"Really," Sephiroth says with a bit of a touched smile. "I am not generally an easy person to get to know." And so many people haven't cared for him through the years. But ... he had used to be widely loved and cared about. It does seem that the people here, for the most part, like him. It's unusual to him after the years of distrust and wariness back home.

“I often a hard time to trying to bond with people without hearing some form of whatever reputation I have since childhood,” he admits to him, “Usually it is either out of malice or just fanning over me rather knowing me on a more personal level. It is hard to get people to see beyond the first impressions and reputations any one has on hand.”

Sephiroth nods, a bit surprised for this information that he strongly relates to.

"It is very hard," he agrees. "Many people know of me through my past reputations and can't seem to accept that they are sometimes exaggerated or outright false. Many have become disenchanted when they see what I am truly like."

“You’re definitely not wrong in coming to that conclusion,” Harry couldn’t agree more, he has gotten fairly sick of people knowing him through those reputation talks and the whole prophecy nonsense (even if he never tries to show it in public).

“People can be very stubborn to change their minds and views even if we try to prove them otherwise. And I must admit, I too grew sick of hearing what people back at home would assume or think about me through those lenses alone.”

He nods. "That has been my unfortunate experience as well." Especially now that the rumors going around usually say that he is some kind of dangerous sorcerer or warlock rather than the hero he had once been known as. But he had encountered plenty of frustratingly wrong views even when the rumors had been positive instead of negative. "People sometimes believed I was capable of any feat, any miracle they wanted done. And when they discovered I am just a man and could not always do it, they felt let-down and betrayed."

“Yes it happens quite too often for the two of us, a lot of people have a tendency to see other people as nothing more than objects meant to be feared or revered from afar no matter how one tries to be good and do good for the sake of others. In the end of the day as much as they don’t want to admit, we’re still as vulnerable and we have limits of our own.”

Harry can’t blame Sephiroth for feeling that way: he too had such great difficulty trying to break through the opinions of people who are not his friends in his world with a prophecy and his original survival looming over his head.

His time spent in Avalon gave him a luxury of being able to live a semi normal life, something that he was not afforded often at home, and it also helps that its citizens are not as on the nose as most of the Wizarding Community in prying into his reputation first and directly interacting with him later.

Sephiroth nods. "Sadly true." And he wishes he could do some of the things people want, but that doesn't change that he just can't. "After a while one wonders if it's even worth it to keep on in that life, but by then it's too late to go into another line of work." And in his case there's the added complication of what happened to Zack and how he blames himself for it.

He has wondered if the reason why he seems fairly accepted here is because people don't know him and either haven't heard of his reputation or are among the few who don't put all stock in such things. He chose the life of a hero, unlike the counterpart he doesn't know about, and while he had mostly been happy in that life, the skewed views of people are a definite downside. And after he fell to the darkness via being possessed by a dark magic object, he doesn't even feel worthy to be considered a hero any more.

He simply nods in agreement as Rose begins to snuggle up to him in a noble effort of reassurance. Speaking of which, that does got Harry to think over as to why no one in his time at Avalon and Auradon hasn’t heard of him or his reputation before showing up in both places as well or if they just don’t bother with it to begin with.

While he certainly didn’t regret choosing to be a good person in spite of everything happening to or around him, he can’t erase many of the bad decisions he had committed throughout his life. Especially the time he tried to go after his own godfather as a teenager thanks to false rumors involving said godfather and the festering anger and angst inside him. It really felt so wrong back then as it is now.

Sephiroth has definitely been rather surprised and confused that those from his world don't seem to have heard much about him, if anything. But maybe they have and they just feel they're being tactful by keeping quiet. That's fine with him, really.

He doesn't regret trying to help others either, but he regrets his mistakes that caused so much heartache and pain and still are. How he wishes he could undo everything that went so wrong.

Finally he smirks a bit. "But it's all pointless speculation now anyway. What is, is, and now we're in a different world where all of that is irrelevant." And he wonders if they will ever get home. But ... if the strange scenes are possible futures, then it would seem they must be able to return eventually....

“Yes of course. There is no point in wallowing in our grief over what others at home think of us. Besides those kinds of people aren’t here right now so I guess we’ll just have to make the most of what we can do in this world and help them out during this crucial time.”

Sephiroth nods. He hopes he can help. So far he hasn't figured out much he can do.

"Have you made any progress?"
