We Can Make A Dress So Pretty

When: A few days after the holiday party
What: Taking final measurements for those in the fashion show, general socializing with the awkward fashion nerd for others
Warnings: Shouldn't be any besides maybe some feels? Will add more if need be.

Final Measurement Appointments

Most of those in Auradon would know Gabriel as being a bit awkward, but those who visited the Home Ec room today would find him in his element. A tantalizing glimpse of a rack of partly finished dresses- and one child-sized suit- could be seen peeking through the gaps of a curtained off area, while finalized design sketches of the same outfits decorated the bulletin board. Meanwhile Gabriel stood ready with measuring tape and notebook as well as a sturdy step stool for those who were on the shorter side as he awaited his prospective models.

Any knocks on the door during the expected timeframe would be met with a warm smile. "Ah, welcome," he said. "Please, come in and we'll get started."

Wonder Twins?- Closed to Nagihiko

Gabriel smiled down at Nagihiko. "I'm glad you were willing to help out," he said. "I understand why the situation would feel a bit awkward to your sister, but thankfully at this age there shouldn't be too much difference between the two of you." That would all change once puberty happened of course, but for now, one twin's measurements should suffice for both. He may have to do a few quick stitches for Nadeshiko on the day, but that would be a simple matter. "If you could take off your hoodie and any other bulky clothing, we'll begin."

General Socializing

Measurements taken, Gabriel could be found hard at work, finishing up the outfits for his new line. Whether tightening up the waistline just so, adjusting the length of a hem, or letting out the sleeves just a bit, he'd do his best to make certain every detail was perfect. Agreste originals demanded nothing less. But that didn't mean he would be especially averse to visitors. And honestly it may be a good idea for someone to poke in on him from time to time, lest he miss a meal or two.

"I can do any male dance, in any style, with or without music. That's... kind of the point."

He hadn't really ever thought of dancing as a particularly gendered activity in most cases, so he wasn't quite sure what constituted a 'male' dance. "Well how about this; what sort of dancing do you enjoy the most?", he said. "Or alternately, what style do you think best shows off your individual skill? This should be something enjoyable for you, after all. It's not really a formal show where there might be other factors to consider; it's simply art for its own sake."

[nadenagi]

He considered, then nodded. "Alright, I think I know which one, then. Though it is more fun with someone ton dance with."

[papillion_de_resistance]

"Well I can't make any promises as to my skill level," he said, "or how good a match I'd be given the rather significant height difference, but I'm willing to give it a try. What type of dance is it?"

Meanwhile though.... "Raise your arms, please, and hold them out straight to your sides in a cross pose."

Can you tell the paid ran out?

"Like a Yukata frame," he said nodding.

"It is a variant of a ballroom dance mixed with a salsa. I learned it overseas."

He nodded as the boy complied, continuing with the measurements. "I have some jazz tunes that might work with that style," he said. "I've seldom done any kind of dancing as energetic as salsa, but I should at least be able to avoid stepping on your toes." Which given their respective sizes was probably a good thing.

"If I am not good enough to keep my feet clear without tripping you up then I deserve to lose," said point blank.

"It's not your skills I'm concerned about, it's my own big feet," he said a bit wryly. "The last time I properly danced was with my wife and even that was a few years ago. Hopefully I'll be able to keep up."

[nadenagi]

A weak attempt at a smile. "Exactly. I need to be able to lead anyone in such a way that they feel as though dancing is both easy and fun when we dance together."

"Then I'll endeavor to get through this as quickly as possible so we have more time for the demonstration," he said. "I did make certain to leave a bit of extra time for this session, since I'd need to fit you with two outfits instead of just one, so it shouldn't be a problem."

"And speaking of which, which would you rather I fitted first, your sister's outfit or your own?"

[nadenagi]

A moment of sharp fear and sorrow that he managed to keep off his face. "N...Nadeshiko's first... I think," he said slowly, keeping his voice light and even through sheer force of will. "She's... always first." Some of the sorrow broke through there, but it should be okay. He hoped.

Gabriel considered for a moment before responding gently, "It's alright if you'd rather do yours first, you know. I won't be upset, and I'm sure your sister wouldn't be either."

[nadenagi]

"N...no. It's fine. It's... probably better." To not leave him with the last impression of how like his sister he looked when wearing a dress.

He considered pressing the matter further for a moment, but ultimately decided that it would be counterproductive just then. "Alright then, as long as you're sure," he said.

He finished the final measurements, then retrieved the dress and suit, first helping Nagihiko into the dress. "I know you and your sister lean into your preferred colors most of the time," he said as he worked on adjusting the pins in the dress' hem, "but for the show, I wanted to try something different. So for the two of you I went with a black and white theme, with a floral motif instead of butterflies. Your preferred colors of red and blue will be shown primarily in the accessories to make them pop dramatically."

[nadenagi]

"Th... thanks. We're not really big fans of butterflies."

Oh, the irony. He knew Nooroo was listening in from inside one of the cupboards, so he fully expected a bit of teasing about this later. Hopefully they'd be willing to make an exception when the time came to publicly introduce Betterfly.

"So I gathered," he said. "And I'm glad I found out in time too, as they were one of the main inspirations behind the line; most of the other outfits are at least partly butterfly themed. But a theme of a butterfly garden works just as well, and no such garden would be complete without flowers."

A few more adjusted pins, and... "There, that should be your sister's all pinned up and ready for finishing. Now it's your turn." He helped Nagihiko out of the dress and returned it to the rack. "Have you ever been fitted for a suit before?"

[nadenagi]

"Get to know Utau, and you'll understand. She uses butterflies as her theme a lot." He scowled.

But at the question he shook his head. "Not European styled ones."

"Well thus far she hasn't cursed in my presence, or thrown things, or demanded anyone be fired over a minor mistake, or threatened anyone with a lawsuit," he said a bit wryly, "so she's better behaved than some adults I've encountered over the course of my career. But I'll take your word for it."

"As for the suit though, would you like to see what you look like with it on once I've gotten it all pinned up? I did bring in a full length mirror, jut in case someone did."

[nadenagi]

"She steals children's dreams and destroys them trying to get her hand on a wish," he said flatly.

To the offer to see himself he just nodded.

He frowned at that. He admittedly wasn't sure how the mechanics of such a thing would work, but given the nature of the Miraculous, it seemed well within the realm of possibility. His own powers largely centered on emotions, after all which were strongly tied to dreams. "Hmm... I wonder what sort of wish would be so important to someone that it would drive them to such terrible lengths to get it?", he said. "Assuming she was doing it for herself, of course, and not for someone else."

Despite the rather dramatic tone the conversation was taking, Gabe was nothing but professional as he worked on getting the necessary adjustments made to Nagihiko's suit.

"How can it matter what she wished if she is willing to do that much harm?" he asked, bitterly. "Her and her brother both."

[papillion_de_resistance]

He shook his head. "I agree that it doesn't excuse her actions," he said. "One way or another, she'll have to deal with the consequences of what she's done. But it's not my place to pass judgement on her when I only know part of her story. Nor, might I add, is it yours or your sister's, however much you personally dislike her." His expression shifted to a slight smile. "Which is to say, I'd best not hear of any schoolyard brawls or mean-spirited pranks from any of you, her included. Whatever else may be true, we're all living in somewhat close quarters and need to at least nominally get along."

"This isn't...." He closed his eyes. Nadeshiko would know how to explain this, what to say. "Nadeshiko and I and our friends... we're the Guardians. It is our job to protect children," he finally said, softly.

His first thought upon hearing that was that if children their age were acting as guardians, he didn't think much of the adults in their lives. He opted not to say that, however, deeming it counterproductive, instead he said, "I'm certain that if anyone here, child or otherwise, needs protection, they'll be glad to have your help, then. But it's best not to confuse guardianship with vengeance."

"The whole premise behind King Ben and Queen Mal's policy is that everyone has the potential to change and become a better person and deserves the chance to do so, even if what they've done was terrible. And while I realize that it's much more difficult to accept when she's likely hurt people who you know personally, Utau is no exception to that rule. So while you don't have to be her friends, I hope that you and your sister will at least try not to assume the worst of her at every turn. Change is never easy, but I can tell she's trying, and would rather not make it harder for her than it needs to be."

[nadenagi]

"She's trying alright," he muttered, then he shook his head. "And when she starts attacking people here?" he asked, softly. "I'm not... I can't...." He shook his head again, depressed. Feeling inadequate.
