He kept singing for a while, until the light in the halls seemed to shift. He slowed as the vision swept around them, letting his voice fade to silence.
fishing under the stars
Prompto didn’t recognize the location, but the way the starlight glittered off the still surface of the water was familiar. As was the head of dark hair in his periphery.
Vision Prompto sighed and shuffled in his seat. “Nocttt…”
Noctis laughed. “Relax Prom, the fish are careful tonight. I know my cuddles are to die for, but you’ll have to wait a little longer.”
Prompto looked away. “That’s not-” He crossed his arms. “I’m just bored. What’s so interesting about fishing anyway…” He muttered the last bit under his breath.
There was a second of silence, before Noct turned in his seat to look at Prompto. His fishing rod was propped between his knees, one hand holding it lightly in case something took the bait. “Alright then. Tell me a story.” He looked back out over the water. “Tell me about Cor, since there’s apparently more to him than I realised.”
Prompto’s hand went to the leather band he always wore around his wrist. “What- what do you want to know?”
Noct’s smile ached where Prompto could just see the corners of it. He thought maybe it was the kind of smile that hurt to wear just as much as it hurt to see. “Tell me about your dad, Prom. What did he do when you had nightmares? What did he do for your birthday? Tell me…”
And here the memory faded away. Noct’s voice drifting away into the silence of the empty hall. Prompto found he had moisture in his eyes, and a sharp pain in his chest. He missed Noct, more than he'd ever missed anything before. It wasn't fair.
